ABOUT ME
My passion for books, antiques, collectibles and art, seem to have been with me forever. I started reading and collecting books at the age of 5. As a once aspiring artist, I painted a lot as well as collected paintings. My massive collection of books, paintings, antiques and collectibles were all a part of “Treasure Hunting” That’s the phrase my Mother would use when she would take me to thrift stores. Eye brows were always raised when I boasted about where I had been shopping. Eyes widened when I would show off the treasures that I found. From first edition, signed copies of famous authors to original artwork of master artist, worth Thousands!
My love of books was the driving force that led me to become a librarian, a position I loved and held for 23 years. After leaving the library, I became a Mortgage Broker and opened a mortgage company (Mortgage American Partnership) in Bowie, MD. This venture was very successful and it afforded me the opportunity to continue collecting books, art, antiques, and many decorative and fine home furnishings. When my collection outgrew my space at home, I put these items in storage with the dream of one day opening my own shop. I always felt I had collected simply the best, which is why I decided to name my shop “Simply the Best”. The grand opening was in May 2005. Simply the Best was later moved to the Maryland Antiques Center in Leonardtown, MD. and once again to the Hughesville Village Market Place in Hughesville, MD, our current location.
My books always outgrew its space no matter where I was located. This led me to sell books online through Amazon.com, Abe Books, and eBay. I later expanded my sales to include antiques, art and collectibles. Selling on site at the Hughesville Village Market Place as well as online is truly the best of both worlds.
I work from home, in Tall Timbers MD, on the water, which is so nice, and being married to my husband Randy who happens to be my greatest supporter and true inspiration, is even nicer. I am very blessed indeed and I welcome and look forward to sharing "Simply the Best Online" with you!
